A Training on the MEAL system

Several MEAL sessions took part in February as part of the efforts to develop the capacity of the staff members and the institutional capacity of the Social Developmental Forum.

The training is part of Building the Institutional Capacities and Enhancing the Digital and Technical Tools of the SDF. The project is one of the implemented projects in partnership with GIZ and it mainly aims to develop the technical and organizational capacities of SDF on different levels. On the level of developing the work schemes and staff capacity building, on the level of digitalizing and updating the work tools within the organization, and on the level of digitalization in different interventions.

The first 6-hour training day was implemented with the participation of the SDF team from different units and projects, in addition to the participation of members of the SDF Youth Committee. The next sessions will begin in the upcoming period with more specialization of each unit and a section on different levels.

The first introductory day of the MEAL system covered a range of topics including, the conceptual framework of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning, each on its own, the responsibilities engaged in each process, the importance of the MEAL system and how it works, in addition to presenting the process of information flow in institutions and how it works in the MEAL system.

The training topics covered practical examples from within the SDF, which contributed to knowledge enhancement through the practical side and relating it to the MEAL system.
In addition to providing digital examples to be invited in the implementation of the M & E processes and the quality assurance.

Hadeel Abu Zaid, the Youth Program Coordinator at SDF, reflected on her participation in the MEAL sessions saying, “The MEAL system contributes to enhancing the quality of our interventions and the monitoring of the implementation as well as making the necessary adjustments regularly and continuously and building on the previous interventions.”

“The adoption of this system at the SDF is a step forward in the quality assurance and performance improvement process in a continuous way in addition to the provision of mechanisms and measures that ensure an environment responsive to accountability requirements.”

She added, “the MEAL system is one of the most essential systems in the work of the institution and it is as important as any other system adopted within organizations. To build the SDF team’s capacities of the MEAL system, a number of coaching sessions are being implemented to ensure its smooth implementation and coherence with other systems and to improve the work environment and enhance the quality of the interventions and provided services.

In his turn, Abed Alraheem Hamad, the Programs Manager, added, “The cruciality of the MEAL System lies in ensuring the optimal use of information and data to guide programs, projects, and activities in a timely manner to better practices based on feedback and recording lessons learned from these experiences, thereby improving the SDF’s capacity for Monitoring, evaluation, accountability for learning”.
