WASLa in its second year
For the second year in a row, WASLA project “improving local response to support the rights of persons with disabilities” is being launched in connection with a number of activities that will reflect the project’s vision. The project seeks to promote the rights of young people, improve the reality of persons with disabilities and enable them to effectively advocate for their causes. It also seeks to develop the capacity of young people and civic institutions to utilize the use of digital tools based on the importance of being highly efficient on social networks.
Walla Karaja, the project coordinator, said that “This project is part of the Social Development Forum’s interventions to develop youth capacities and empowerment, especially as the project brings together people with disabilities and their youth counterparts without hindrance to lead the change process in a holistic, participatory approach.”
He added that, “the digital advocacy center, established in the first stage of the project, will complete its efforts this year to provide digital consultation to local activists and organizations, build the digital capabilities of non-profit sector workers, improve the presence of NGOs on social media platforms, and support the effective use of digital tools.”
The project will target local institutions working in the disability sector, local outreach and advocacy workers, new media activists and young people with disabilities and without disabilities to improve the use of social networks and other digital tools in advocacy and awareness-raising campaigns among these groups. In addition to improving the technical capacity of representative bodies of persons with disabilities as well as strengthening the values of collective action and continuity in the defense of the rights of persons with disabilities.
The project will also include the production of digital blogs that enrich knowledge and increase awareness of digital tools and applications and their use in order to achieve a better digital presence both for NGOs and for youth activists. It also deals with the latest updates on social media platforms and new services offered by different networks, which will help make organizations more aware of what’s new in the world of sociomedical to invest these updates in the service of their goals and the nature of their work.
It is worth mentioning that WASLA project is implemented by the Social Development Forum in partnership with the Medical Aid for Palestine as one of the forum’s interventions that aim at reinforcing the role of digital tools in supporting the issues of the most marginalized groups in the Palestinian society.
