Eight youth teams representing 40 young men and women from the Gaza Strip universities participated in the 10 x 10 competition, which was launched as part of the Yalla Change project’s initiatives. The competition is part of promoting fun and competitive activities to raise awareness of national and cultural knowledge. The competition’s rounds covered topics on human rights, diversity, and the Palestinian heritage.

The name of the competition 10 × 10 is reflected on its method of implementation where each team answers ten questions in each round to qualify to the next stage. The competing teams faced six rounds before reaching the final round. Teams Naji Al-Ali and Greatest Leaders qualified to the final round and Naji Al-Ali team was crowned the winner.

“Youth must be more aware of human rights and political and civic participation. Thus, through the 10 × 10 competition, we look forward to enriching cultural content and promoting Palestinian values and identity with an enjoyable, challenging and competitive method that contributes to communicating facts and values in an interactive manner.” said Nareman Hwaihi, Yalla Change project coordinator on the importance of the 10 × 10 contest.

Yasmina Mehanna from the initiative team said that the success of the competition can be measured by every young man or women who has learned new information about Palestine. “This will have a great impact on young people and will be a strong motivation to learn more about our country’s heritage.”

As for Ehab Maghraby, he found that each step of the initiative was a unique educational experience. “I’m pleased with my role in the implementation of the initiative and I hope for it be the beginning to many cultural activities that contribute to investing in the knowledge of young people.”

It is worth mentioning that the cultural competition is one of the initiatives of the Yalla Change project – Promoting youth’s role as change leader in Gaza communities implemented by the Social Developmental Forum in Gaza for the second consecutive year.
