SDF Youth Committee: a real simulation of the general elections

4 not 14 Campaign: Towards Greater Political Participation of Youth

A whole generation of youth in Palestine was deprived for many years of experiencing elections due to the disruption of the democratic process, hence Yalla Change participants came up with the “4 Not 14” campaign aimed to introduce young people to the stages and steps of the electoral process and the conditions for candidacy and election and other related topics that we hope will be practiced soon by young people as a step to enhance their political participation in Palestine.

The campaign included a large number of awareness videos and graphic designs that explain the electoral process in a detailed and simplified manner for young people, and these products have achieved high reach on social media platforms.

The most prominent activity of the campaign came in cooperation with the Central Elections Committee in Palestine, where Social Developmental Forum implemented a real simulation of the Palestinian general elections within the activities of the third season of the Yalla Change program

More than 150 young men and women from all the training programs of the Forum participated in the simulation to elect the Forum’s Youth Committee consisting of 5 members, which will have a major role in the youth activities within the Forum projects.

Young people ran, registered to vote, carried out election campaigns, formed election committees, and elected for the first time. “This has been the first time I took part in the elections experience. I learned various terms such as appeal and proportional representation and how electoral votes go through several procedures. I’m proud of this experience and I hope to witness it on the ground. ” Israa Diab

It is worth noting that this campaign was one of the ideas of the Initiatives Challenge Camp- Yalla Challenge, implemented in partnership with Norwegian People’s Aid – NPA.
